2004-01-02 - 9:16 a.m.Thank You. Drive Through. . .The rain pours down on these quiet streets like some overused metaphor, signaling that the honeymoon is basically over. The few remaining stragglers from this holiday season will be gone by Sunday, while all those that had departed will be returned within the same time. Houses and apartments are being cleaned in the aftermath of parties, the stories of which will entertain all involved for months to come. It's time. There's no more lollygagging allowed. The presents have been given, the feasts consumed, the alcohol swallowed (and often regurgitated) and now it's time to return to some state of "normalcy." As stressful as the holidays can be, I'm quite sad to see them go, because the high spirit's often seem to leave with them. There's supposedly no reason to give anymore. No reason to celebrate. The New Year has begun so let's get moving so we don't spend it in poverty. And this is the test where all those promises and wishes we made on New Year's Eve either begin to see the light or become quickly forgotten. Regardless, the novelty is soon to wear off, and it's time to see if the good mood spawned by time off and good friends can last through the absence of the former. We can hope, anyway. Thank you for shopping at Life. Enjoy your new year. . . |
